Although I am overjoyed with the election of Barack Obama for the US presidency, I am also saddened by the passage of Prop 102 in Arizona, Amendment 2 in Florida and Prop 8 in California, all of the three banning marriage for same-sex couples, and Act 1 in Arkansas, which banned adoption and foster care by unmarried, cohabitating couples.
I should say, however, that I am even sadder to acknowledge that in my country of birth same-sex couples have absolutely no civil rights, which is unacceptable.
It hurts me deeply to see prejudice and hatred towards our brothers and sisters, who should have all the right in the world to form families and get married.
This is outrageous and an incredible lack of humanity.
